Reply to a Letter From My Mom, 2024
 Photography
 Beijing, China

This piece is a response to a letter from my mother. In 2022, during the challenging period of the pandemic, I was forced to isolate from her just one week before I was to leave for my studies abroad. I didn't even have the chance to pack my own luggage; my mother did it for me over a video call. After arriving in the UK, I discovered a letter she had written on the day we said goodbye, tucked away in my hard drive case.
Despite technological advancements, my mother has always held onto the habit of writing letters. Sometimes I would find them on my pillow after waking up, or hidden in my homework. I was always too shy to respond, and we silently acknowledged the exchange. However, I realised I needed to change that.
In this project, I see myself as a hermit crab, constantly searching for the shell of love. So, two years later, 1 am using my imagery to finally reply to that letter, creating this work as a visual response.
